What you need to know

There are a few things that is wise to take with you:

necessary:

a tent, a sleeping bag, a camping matress, own plate and cup, cutlery (knife, fork and spoon), torch and batteries, clothes for warm and cold weather, swimsuit, raincoat (in two weeks some water will come down for sure), camping needs (eco washing powder, soap and shampoo).

nice:

Musical instruments, photos and videos to show to the people, leaflets and infos from your projects, anything you might want for actions, ...

not to Bring:

Cars or other motor vehicles, bad mood, prejudices and right-wing ideas. If you have dogs, please, do not bring them. We are very sorry to say that, but we have had a lot of problems with that in previous years and we ask you to arrange something so that your pet is taken care of and we would not have them at Ecotopia.

Guidelines during Ecotopia 2004

During Ecotopia for two weeks there will be about a couple of hundred people living together in a sustainable environment. To make this possible we have made some guidelines. The base of the guideline is that we take account on each other and the environment we live in. That we all realise we are living in a sustainable environment. To make this environment possible we need a certain sustainable attitude.

Safety and First Aid

In case of accidents of illness there will be a central First Aid Post. There will be certain people available during Ectopic who will be able to help people who cot ill or who have had an accidentscan assist. But don't forget that in the first place your health will be your own responsibility.

The rivers

The rivers can be a danger if you want to swim in it. Because of the heavy traffic on the rivers there can be running water and gulf streams from time to time. During Ectopic there will be more information at the infopoint about where you can swim and where you cannot. In eather way be carefull.

Heath & Water

Heat and Dryness

In case of extreme heat it is important to drink enough water (about one or two litters a day) appart from your normal drinking need. Next to that you should be carefull with alcohol. Because this can dry you out much more quickly than without alcohol. (Next to that we ask people not to use alcohol or other drugs during the day (see Drugs & Alcohol)

You also should stay out of the sun as much as possible. This prevents sunstrokes and sunburns. To prevent this you can use sunburn lotion and you could put on something on your heat.

Coldness and Water

Next to heat it is possible that it will rain all day for two weeks. In that case it can get quite cold and it will be hard to keep your clothes dry. At such a case make sure you clothe warm and take at least a rainjacked with you. At last don't let wet clothes in your tent, this can ruin your clothes and viruses and bacteria can grow easy in wet clothes, which may cause illness.

Children

There will be a special playingplace for children during Ecotopia. But note that the organisation of Ecotopia doesn't feel responsable for taking care of the children. Perants will have to arrange watch of the children them self. Of course there is always place for arranging this during the morning circles.

There will be more information about the drinkingwater in a couple of days.

Parking, caravans & campers

On and near to the Ecotopia and fort Loevestein terrain there will be no space for parking of cars, caravans and campers. If you want to stay at Ecotopia it is best to come with public transport and to sleep in a tent. If do want to come with a car parking of the car will be your own responsibility. You might be able to park your car near to Gorinchem or Woudrichem.
